Information on the STAMP Assessment for the Spanish School

A study is being carried out this summer in the Language Schools to evaluate the usefulness of the STAMP Test by the testing company AvantAssessment, which is an assessment for measuring the level of your Spanish.

If you would like to opt in to this study, you would be taking the STAMP test to measure your Spanish skills at the beginning and at the end of the summer.   The Spanish School will then get information on how this test measures your proficiency before the Spanish School and after, in the four skills of reading, writing, speaking and listening.

How do I sign up to participate?

Register using this form: https://forms.gle/kyYxfdd8XCNbCTNP8

You will need to sign up to participate before 2:00pm on Sunday June 29.   You will then be registered to take the assessment.

To view the IRB consent form for the study, click here.

When do I take the test?

The test will be proctored from Fill in the time here

The test may take as little as 30 minutes or as long as 90 minutes.  It is an adaptive test, so it will deliver you different questions based on how you performed on previous questions.

Where do I take the test?

You can take the test online in your own room or a quiet place using your personal laptop. You will receive a Zoom link to participate in the test.

What do I need for the test?

You will need to bring or have on hand a computer with internet access (with the Google Chrome browser) and a set of earphones with a microphone (Bluetooth or corded–they need to be able to connect to your computer). No pen or paper is allowed during the assessment.

What will happen at the end of the summer?

After the Spanish School has finished in August, you will be contacted by Matt Coss (mattcoss@msu.edu), a researcher at Michigan State University, and sent information on three different times when you can take the assessment again, in order to have a comparison between pre and post results. You will then receive an official score report (see below) if you have completed all components of the assessment process!

After you have taken the second assessment, the results of your two assessments will be sent to you via email by Matt Coss.
