Francisco Álvarez-Díaz, de Madrid, España, es is a professor of piano at the Conservatorio Superior de Música in Granada and conductor of the Science School Choir at the University of Granada.. His professional training includes studies at the Royal Conservatory of Music in Madrid, the Cleveland Institute of Music, Southern Methodist University in Dallas and the Folkwang Hochschule in Essen, Germany. He made his orchestral debut in 1984 at the Sundome in Phoenix, since then he has specialized in Spanish and Latin American music, which has presented in concert at Middlebury College regularly for the past fifteen years. He has performed as a soloist in major halls in Spain, the United States, South America and Europe and has recorded unusual Hispanic music for the National Radio of Spain. He has been invited by the prestigious March Foundation of Madrid to perform in the series “El piano Iberoamericano”; has toured South America performing Spanish music, and has played for the Spanish Ambassador in the United States. He has conducted numerous piano Master Classes in Spain and abroad, as well as lectures and concerts throughout the United States on Spanish repertoire and historical matters. Professor Alvarez conducts the Spanish School Choir at Middlebury.

Paco Álvarez es el director del Coro de la Escuela desde 2007. Vino por primera vez a Middlebury en el año 1993 invitado a tocar un recital de piano para la Escuela Española en homenaje al profesor Emilio Núñez. Desde entonces y durante muchos veranos de este último cuarto de siglo, se ha encargado de difundir la música española y latinoamericana para piano solo, interpretando a los compositores más relevantes del panorama clásico de nuestra cultura.
Hace cuatro veranos, Paco quiso dar un giro al formato del concierto y desde entonces Leticia y él comparten con la Escuela el maravilloso repertorio en español para canto y piano.
Paco Álvarez es profesor de piano y repertorista de canto en el Conservatorio Superior de Música de Granada. Dirige el Coro de la Facultad de Ciencias de la Universidad de Granada y en el verano de 2016 le fue concedida la Medalla Lilian Streube del Centenario de las Escuelas de Lenguas del Middlebury College.
